GUM Releases New Single “Out In The World"

GUM, otherwise known as Jay Watson, has released his fresh new track “Out In The World” via Spinning Top Records and Kung Ku Nation. The single is set to be released as a 7” with an exclusive b-side cover of “It’s A Sad World” by Ballroom.

“The song is about the feeling of wanting to give up and never talk to anyone ever again after something goes wrong,” said Watson. “It started off as a jangly 12 string folk sort of thing, before morphing into my version of Fleetwood Mac meets Cleaners From Venus. It features very little keyboard and synthesizer for me and more guitars than I’ve used in a while, it was important to have that texture.”

“Out In The World” showcases a new level of musicianship from Watson that we have not seen prior. The depth of his lyricism along with the toned down pop-synth approach is a layer that collectively sounds strengthened. We can’t wait to hear what GUM has in store with his next set of releases!

The video was directed by Canadian filmmaker Laura-Lynn Petrick on 16mm, Super 8, and Camcorder. Underwater shots were captured by Samuel Kristofski on a Bolex camera.
