Joe Keery has done nothing but continuously surprises us with his musical avenues. From being a founding member of Post Animal, then leaving and launching his debut solo project Djo (something done very subtlety and quietly late last year), we find ourselves dismayed by every release.
Although Keery’s name is backed by his acting career, it doesn’t seem to overlap or interfere with his musical journey. Of course, the clout is good to have, but Keery’s music speaks for itself in more ways than one. Djo undoubtedly stands on its own; self-identifies and has formed a space of its own.
Today, Djo brings us his newest single ‘Keep Your Head Up,’ a track that fuses Keery’s undeniable psychedelia sound while experimenting with elements of funk. This new found exploration emphasizes a compelling avenue that truly shows the raw talent that Keery has. The track oozes that optimism that were struggling to find in all the chaos of the pandemic, keeping things light and freeing.
Although Djo had several touring plans for 2020, the pandemic ultimately put those to a halt, leading Djo to head back into the studio to produce his next batch of work. We can certainly expect more to come over the next few months!
