TEMPESST have announced their debut LP ‘Must Be A Dream’ produced by long-time friend Elliot Heinrich (POND) will be out on September 30th via their own label Pony Recordings. The band has also revealed their first single off of the album ‘On The Run.’
The bands foundations start wit Toma and Andy Banjanin; twin brothers from Noosa, Australia. While growing up in a musical family, the pair also participated in their local church band, leading them to meet fellow bandmates Kane Reynolds and Blake Mispieka. From there, the band jetting off to experience life in Hackney, London, where they would meet their final band member Eric Weber.
After experiencing a small portion of what life in the UK had to offer, the pair departed to Williamsburg, NY, where they quickly became actively involved in the DIY ethos the borough oozes. Through their time expanding their horizons with their music appreciation and their new depth with the concept of DIY. Once returning to the UK, the pair came up with the idea to create Pony Studios; a warehouse space with multiple studios and practice spaces, as well as Pony Recordings.
“DIY is part of everything that we do, so that extends to our label, the studio, the videos, all of it and really it’s just how the indie music scene has evolved. With the studio, we have time to work on all the key things that have become quintessential to our sound but also experiment and add an element of surprise, whether that is a weird synth solo or a key change. It’s those little departures that keep the listener on their toes.” - Toma Banjanin
If you’ve been a fan of TEMPESST since the release of their debut single ‘Too Slow,’ you’ll be able to see how much the act has grown, not only musically, but visually. TEMPESST has brought another element to their music; infusing that 70s pop essence into their already well crafted corky, psych, blues tone.
Their single ‘On The Run’ centres around the real life story of trauma; coping while abusing vices and the loss of a friend. “It’s about a close friend who disappeared for a decade and returned as someone completely different, and it’s an ongoing trauma… For me, this song carries a lot more emotional weight.” - Toma Banjanin
We’re pleased to see TEMPESST is back and have the feeling their debut will be an extra special treat.
